Bonnie Tsang is the embodiment of good taste and aesthetics. Based out of Los Angeles, Bonnie is an accomplished lifestyle and portrait photographer documenting real moments and settings in a photo-journalistic manner. Her thoughtfully curated boards on Pinterest and b for bonnie personal lifestyle blog, have earned her a large following of people who look to her as an authority on all things fashion, design, and cuisine.
Recently, Bonnie gave us a tour of her favorite shops & eateries in Los Angeles, all in the neighborhood of Silver Lake. Her daughter, Venise, came along, and the two of them spent the day shopping, eating, and photographing the sights using VSCO Cam. The mother and daughter duo started off their morning at LaMill with coffee, waffles
& doughnut holes, followed by some shopping at Yolk, Lawson Fenning and Reform School. After a lunch break at Gingergrass, a Vietnamese restaurant, the day ended at Broome St. General, enjoying a ginger latte and checking out the store's home goods.
While getting to visit some amazing places, what made the outing so special was seeing Bonnie and Venise enjoying the experience together. Whether a trip to a store, relaxing at home, or eating amidst friends, what's important is recognizing the beautiful aspects in our everyday living. Bonnie has a gift for noticing and photographing such real and lovely moments around her, and with her iPhone on hand, she is always prepared to capture them.
Usually when that happens it means I've worked too much. To recharge, I would just relax for a day by enjoying a nice meal, spend time with family and friends, or do nothing.
You describe your images as journalistic, natural, and real. How has your style evolved since you first began as a photographer? My photography style has evolved tremendously, but it was a slow process. I was fascinated and wanted to capture everything in the beginning. Now, I'm more selective; or let's just say I know what I want.
It is evident when viewing your food photography that you eat a variety of delicious foods. If you were limited to eating the same dish every day for a month, what would you choose? If I'm limited to eating just one dish for a month, then it would have to be dumplings.
You have such a strong presence on the web between your 2 blogs & Pinterest. How do you manage to stay on top of it all? It's part of my life, and I just enjoy doing it. It doesn't seem like work to me, so it's a lot easier staying on top of it.
