Andrew & Carissa Gallo, of Kinfolk Magazine, created a film about adventure and freedom in celebration of the Volume 4 release of the magazine. “This film, from the beginning, was our ode to summer. We wanted to capture the feelings of nostalgia from those long, never-ending days: the way fresh water feels on a hot day, the freedom of a lack of schedule, the taut feeling of sunburned skin. It was fun as the shoot progressed. All of us agreed that we felt like we were experiencing the best of summer in two days.”

Together, the husband and wife duo brainstormed ideas, created mood boards and discussed the feelings they wanted the film to evoke. Once decided on the direction of the film, logistics such as production schedules and casting were arranged. “We had really specific locations in mind, as we dreamt about it. So, we enlisted the help of our friend and collaborator, Phillip, who lives in the Shenandoah Valley. There, in the valley, our imaginations' sketches came to life.”

The couple finds their best work is the result of collaboration. “During the shoot, we are always putting our heads together, Andrew with his background in production and Carissa with her background in photography, to get the look and feel we want. Andrew operates the camera, and Carissa sets up shots and sets. After it's all shot, Andrew edits, and Carissa color corrects. But we are just a humble two, there are so many others that made this what it is: Phillip, the producer, Anna, the actress, Shervin, the musician, and, of course, the Kinfolk team.”
